WM31: Match Importance Ranking

Hello! It's yet another Mania Week Blog, you getting sick of them yet? But anyway this is one of the more straightforward blogs I've done this week- it is simply me ranking the matches from what I deem the least important to the most important on the Card.

I've decided to look at it from a "WWE Universe" perspective, as well as a "Fan" perspective to put together this list, and I've also looked at it from how WWE has tried to get us to perceive the matches in terms of the build they've given it if that makes any sense at all. LETS GET RANKING!, If Jonathan Ross said that I'd have had to put in an R-Truth "I Don't even know if that's PG".

9. The Andre the Giant Battle Royal
Aside from Curtis Axel I couldn't care less about any of the announced competitors in the match, and there is absolutely no story going into the match. Last Year we had Hogan hyping the Battle Royal and although it was a filler battle royal it at least felt like it meant something. Between Cesaro well and truly falling off the rails once he won the Battle Royal and all the build for the match being crammed into 1 Segment on RAWs this match means absolutely nothing on this Wrestlemania Card- and for a Battle Royal I think it'll be really short. That said I've managed to make the guys involved work as a part of a cohesive card, as part of my "Unbookables Wrestlemania" blog I put out last night which I'd highly recommend reading if you haven't already.

8. Paige & A.J. v The Bella Twins
"Give Divas a Chance" just don't give the Divas a Title Match on a PPV it would appear the message is. It's stupid, in a 4 Hour Show they could have easily given us the Paige v Nikki Title Match we had on RAW; instead we've got a Tag Match with literally nothing riding on it. The only reason this isn't ranked last is because it isn't a glorified jobber match like the Battle Royal is and it has received a somewhat credible build.

7. KiddSaro v New Day v Los Matadores v The Usos
Any Match that's relegated to the Pre-Show isn't going to be high up on this list. That combined with the fact this match was only officially announced this past RAW confirms this is very much an afterthought of a match- and we only really got any type of build for it in the last couple of weeks. We didn't even have New Day feature on RAW for god sake. That said it is a Title Match, and the central feud of The Usos v KiddSaro has been somewhat entertaining.

6. Randy Orton v Seth Rollins
As much as WWE wants to push this as one of the Main Matches on the card, and Orton and Rollins have done a great job to build the match without a doubt- What is actually riding on the match? I love a good blood feud don't get me wrong, but this match doesn't have type of stipulation attached to it that implies it's going to be a brutal match. So this is a blood feud that is going to be contained within the rules and regulations of a traditional wrestling match, Exciting!

5. IC Title Ladder Match
The build for this match has been pretty hit & miss, I hated the stuff we had a few weeks ago with R-Truth hoodwinking the dastardly Bad News Barrett on multiple occasions because it was just silly. That combined with the fact the Object that is desired was attached R-Truth's suit jacket with a Clothes Peg not so long ago makes the match go down in value in my estimation. That said they have given this match a significant amount of build for the match it is- and as WWE likes to push the concept of Multiple Main Events now this is the highest it could ever have been.

4. Bray Wyatt v Undertaker
This is in no way a slight on Wyatt v Taker, but out of the 4 Matches I perceive to be the "Multiple Main Events" this has the least riding on it- and the least amount of build. A Match where only one of the competitors has actually been around to build it can only be ranked so high, that combined with the fact The Streak is no longer in tact means Wyatt has very little to chase- I thought they'd have put a Retirement Stipulation on the match so Bray could chase grabbing the "soul" of Taker, but as such it is going to be a normal wrestling match with no stipulation attached to it.

3. Rusev v John Cena
Once again I've liked the build for this match, I'd hoped they would have had Cena chasing the Rematch with Rusev right up until the RAW that has just gone, but with Lana away filming it is understandable. Rusev has been sufficiently built as a monster to the point that I don't mind to a great extent that it's is likely he's leaving Mania without the belt; and with all of the Patriotic Permutations attached to the match clearly forgetting the fact the Network flopped when it was US only it has to be ranked high, but not higher than the two matches I've ranked after this because while it has been built well it is one of the lesser of the 4 perceived Main Events.

2. Sting v Triple H
Despite Sting's lack of appearances in the build to this match, IT'S STING- HELLO! It's Sting's first match in a WWE Ring ever, that in itself ranks it pretty high on the list, combine that with the fact it's a match against Triple H who has become the central heel character who actually shows up every week of the last couple of years makes this match rank so highly. It could have been #1 if they'd attached an "Authority Out of Power" stipulation and they properly killed off the Authority Angle like I predicted this Mania would be, but as such there isn't a stipulation attached so it's in the Bridesmaid position.

1. Brock Lesnar v Roman Reigns
It isn't surprising that this match is #1 given the WWE Title is on the line, but this match has gotten infinitely more interesting since Tuesday night when it was announced Brock had re-signed with WWE. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities in the match- and really opens up the potential for Brock to retain. As such this match is comfortably #1 on the list whereas before Tuesday it would have at least been a debate because the build for this Mania doesn't feel like a Roman Reigns Coronation Ceremony anymore (although I still think he's going over).

As always with this type of blog it is entirely my opinion, so if you have a differing one feel free to share it with me.

Thanks for reading as always, we're now some way into this Mania week so if you haven't already have a look over the blogs I've already done this week and if you see one that takes your fancy read it. Also Stay Tuned for the rest of my Mania Week Blogs both today and all the ones to come later on in the week.
